Railway Union
Railway Union is one of the oldest hockey clubs in Ireland. Originally formed in 1904 we celebrated our centenary year in 2004. Railway Union Ladies have 6 senior teams, with an active underage development section catering for U8s right up to U16s. Railway Union Ladies Hockey Club is part of Railway Union Sports Club with a thriving men’s hockey section, mens and ladies cricket, tennis, rugby, football and bowls. The facilities at Railway are second to none with a state of the art water-based pitch, club house and changing facilities.
Railway Ladies Hockey Club has progressed to being one of the top Irish hockey clubs in recent years, winning the Leinster Senior League for the first time in its history in the 2008/9 season. The Senior Coach, Mick McKinnon has played a key role in this development, ably assisted by Una McCarthy (the IHA Coach of the Year 2006/7). Emma Smyth is currently on the Irish Senior Team and Jean McDonnell won the IHA’s women’s club player of the year 2008/9.
Honours Twins, Isobel and Cecelia Joyce who play on the Railway 1st team also play on the Irish Women’s cricket team.
Emer Dillon, who plays on the Railway 1st team has 4 All Ireland camogie medals with Cork.
Two Railway Members have won the IHA President’s Award: Rita Parsons and Grace Redmond.
