2010/2011 Season - About the Teams

Corinthians

Corinthian Hockey Club first fielded a team in September 1934, coinciding with the opening of the new hockey grounds in Templeogue. Success came quickly to CHC, with our 2nd XI reaching the final of the Irish Junior Cup in 1935, while the 1st XI made the semi-final of the Leinster Senior (“Mills”) Cup the following season, losing 3-2 to Trinity College.

In 1937, the 1st XI were runners-up to Trinity in the Leinster Senior league whilst the 2nd XI were runners-up in the Middle League. It all came right the following year, in 1938, when the 1st XI won both the Mills Cup and the Leinster Senior League. In 1986, CHC moved from Templeogue to make way for housing developments, and found a new home in St Columba’s College in Rathfarnham, where we have been ever since. In 1978, CHC established its first womens teams, with our ladies 1st XI rising through the leagues to attain Senior 1 status in 1992.

Although there were various league successes in intervening years and some great cup runs, we had to wait until 2005 to again hold aloft the Mills Cup, a feat repeated again on St. Patrick's day in 2009, our 75th anniversary season.

Apart from providing great facilities for adult hockey, CHC is renowned for its junior section, with more than 200 families sending 275 kids up to the pitch every weekend to receive top-class coaching and to play matches and tournaments. Many of the coaches are drawn from the senior section of the club, and include Leinster representatives, Ireland internationals and overseas Internationals. Such is the level of interest in CHC’s junior program that there is often a waiting list to get a place.

We are a welcoming club for all new comers and have a great tradition of welcoming players from domestic and foreign sources. We have International level & IHA qualified coaches who develop players of all abilities with a focus on skills development and fun ! We currently have 8 players, 1 lady and 7 men, playing at Junior and Senior Leinster and Irish Team level and this is a testimony to our substantial investment in Junior player development over the past 10 years in particular. CHC is a Club with a bright future particularly as we have a strong pipeline of talented players coming through at all levels.

The club caters for players of all ages and standards, from the very serious to the very social. Currently, our Senior Club comprises of 5 Mens teams and 6 Ladies teams. Our Mens and Ladies 1st XI teams both play at the highest level in their respective Leinster Leagues and Cup competitions. The remaining teams are well spread throughout the Leinster Leagues and Cup arena and we can cater for all levels of hockey ability. We are pleased to participate also in Mens and Ladies Vets hockey.
